Dale Halvorsen is a writer, internationally award-winning book cover designer, graphic designer and Illustrator.

As a book cover designer, graphic designer and Illustrator he has worked under the nom de plume 'Joey Hi-Fi' for the past 16 years. He has won the British Science Fiction Association award twice, the British Fantasy Award and France’s prestigious Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire for his cover design work. He has illustrated and designed book covers for most major international publishers and his work has appeared on book covers around the world. Clients have included most major publishers, from Penguin Random House to Hodder & Stoughton.

As a writer he is the co-creator of the Vertigo original horror series, Survivors’ Club together with co-writer Lauren Beukes and artist Ryan Kelly. It is currently in development as a TV series with the CW. His other comics credits include writing for 2000AD and Vertigo’s Strange Sport Stories. His short story credits include “This Book Will Find You” (The Outcast Hours, Solaris Press, 2019) co-written with Lauren Beukes and Sam Beckbessinger.

He has given talks on book cover design and writing for comic books at Comic Con Africa, FanCon, Design Indaba, the Absa VUKA Showcase as well as literary festivals such as
The Open Book Festival and the Franschhoek Literary Festival.

While working on various book cover commissions he is also co-writing a mystery-horror novel, Magpies, about a trio of missing girls who come back, changed, together with Sam Beckbessinger.
He lives in Cape Town, South Africa.
